Breakfast at Tiffany’s The Blue Box Cafe

My family took an amazing Christmas vacation to New York City recently, and we had the time of our lives. This trip was a bucket list vacation. Christmas in New York City, should be something that everyone should experience at least once. I grew up in Manhattan, and to be able to bring my husband and kids back to New York for the holidays, was a dream come true.

The highlight from our trip to New York City, for me at least, was getting the chance of a lifetime to experience Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The iconic store has a tiny gem of a restaurant named The Blue Box Cafe on the fourth floor that serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. With much planning and determination can one get a reservation here. I will be attempting to explain how to get a highly coveted reservation at Blue Box Cafe, a little later. For now, let’s talk about this magical restaurant!

When you first enter Tiffany & Co, you will feel like you are transported to New York in the 1950’s! The elegance of this majestic destination takes your breath away. The sales attendants are very helpful and will greet you as you enter through the revolving doors. Revolving doors are everywhere in New York City, and I used them every chance I had!

Use the elevators to get to the forth floor. You will see that this is home decor. You will also see the entrance to the Blue Box Cafe. I found it to be very chic, stylish and beautiful with their iconic Tiffany blue color splashed on everything! Including the dishes which I have seen available for purchase. It has a feeling of classic Art Deco New York, meets Mad Men, meets modern. Very stylish indeed!

We sat in the corner booth. The plush leather of the Tiffany blue banquette seating with a window view of 5th ave. The walls are adorned with displays of Tiffany Boxes and beautiful holiday vignettes.

We ordered Breakfast at Tiffany Buttermilk waffle, and Avocado Toast which comes with coffee or tea, each for $32

The buttermilk waffle, was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a soft dusting of powdered sugar. It was even big enough to share.

I loved, loved, loved, the avocado toast, and it was a huge portion, so we were able to share it and we thought it was very delicious with a perfectly poached egg to top it off with.

Next we ordered the Tiffany Tea tower of delicious assortments,

For $52 that consists of a bottom tier of sweet and savory scones, and accompanied by sour cherry cranberry jam, clotted cream, and honey.

The middle tier has an assortment of finger sandwiches of herbed chicken salad, smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber goat cheese, romesco and asparagus. Tiny but still delicious!

The top tier is filled with an assortment of sweets that include a Tiffany birds nest made of pastry with Tiffany blue candy coated chocolate eggs, a Tiffany Blue Box petit four, chocolate dominos, a delicate snowflake shortbread cookie, a raspberry tart, and lemon jelly diamond.

The scones were so good, and this will be my very first time trying clotted cream, which I must say, I am now a amazed that I have never tried this before. It does taste like a mix of sweet butter and whipped cream. Who can resist? Slathered on a warm scone, with a hot cup of tea , I’m in heaven!

The sandwiches were very small but my daughters and I were still able to share so that we all had a taste. My favorite was the romesco and asparagus because it tasted a bit like my recipe for sadma believe it or not. The smoked salmon was my second favorite. I just love the flavor of salmon with cream cheese.

The sweet tier was so cute with it’s Tiffany birds nest. I especially loved the shortbread cookie that looks right out of the movie Frozen!

The star of the show is definitely the Tiffany Blue Box Cake!

At $59 it is quite a splurge for such a small cake, but it is well worth the price. My girls are celebrating their birthdays together and this was such a treat for them! This is a chocolate cake that is glazed in poured fondant in classic Tiffany Blue. The flavor was a rich dark chocolate with a creamy buttercream Tiffany Blue filling. It’s definitely a must have at the Blue Box Cafe!

This was a once in a lifetime trip for many, so when you have the chance to visit, splurge on yourself. It’s ok! Your only here once, so you might as well try everything!

Getting a reservation here, can be a difficult task. I personally recommend getting the reservation through the Resy App. The website is much slower to refresh, when you need to tap the reservation time, before it is swooped up within seconds.

Once you download the Resy App, create your profile and complete your registration. Be sure to enter your credit card information ahead of trying to get your reservation.

Blue Box Cafe reservations can only be made through the Resy app or website. For my reservation, I had to make it one month ahead of time, and I had to be sure to get my reservation at 6am pst. That is when reservations are available. You have to be fast when trying to get a reservation for Blue Box Cafe, because reservations are taken with nano seconds!

If you see that the date you desire for your reservation is full, you can place your time slot on alert, and if that time slot becomes available due to a cancellation, you will get a notification can a table has opened up, and again, you must be very fast to secure a reservation. Every day a 9 am est. a new day of reservations is available 30 days ahead of time. There are only about 15 tables available at this restaurant, so I had myself, my husband and my son on my Resy profile at the same time to be sure to secure a reservation. Yes, I was that determined!

I recently discovered that they are making renovations to this iconic spot, and that they will not be making reservations until 2021.

So maybe they will be expanding the restaurant?

All I know is I made it just in time! My and my daughters will never forget this moment of a lifetime and the day we shared at the Blue Box Cafe for Breakfast at Tiffany’s
