Loco Moco is a dish that originated in Hawaii. Legend has it, ( well from what I’ve read on Wiki) is that some teenagers, much like mine, I’m sure, came into a local joint, and asked for something that differs from a plain sandwich, so the restaurant owners, came up with this dish, and the teenagers named it Loco Moco.

Loco Moco

It is so simple to make really, it is rice, piled with a burger patty, brown gravy, and a fried egg. Sounds divine! First off, I love hamburger patties dowsed is brown gravy. And then it is topped with a fried egg! Whoo hoo! Now the patty has delicious flavors mixed in, like finely diced onion, and a bit of soy sauce, to bring out that Island flavor. I also added Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper.

My kids loved this, and it is now on our weekly menu. I have a lot of recipes on my weekly menu, and what I usually do, is ask my family, what they prefer from my list or recipes, that they would like to eat for the week. After they have chosen their 5 favorite from my very long list, I head to the store, and get everything I need for the week. I usually leave 1 or 2 nights off, for eating out. Little by little, I will be trying to switch to gluten free for my kids as much as I can. I have been researching about all of the health benefits of going gluten free, and we will be going there soon!

Loco Moco - A Hawaiian Favorite!

I will still be cooking non-gluten free recipes for the blog every now and then, as I have a large extended family, and a sister who lives nearby, who always wants my food! So the cooking will always be going on at our house, but you will start seeing a lot of gluten free options as well. But for now, here is this delicious Loco Moco, which is pretty much gluten-less, especially if you find gluten free beef broth, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce . Corn starch, and rice, are both gluten free, which I am happy about, because I use them both often in my recipes. Try this, and see how delicious, and simple it is!
