Buns into breadcrumbs

Hi guys! I’m here today with an awesome tip for Frugal Friday. With the holidays coming up soon, I know I am going to need a lot of bread crumbs for all kinds of recipes. And I love saving money by turning old into new.

When I make burgers for my family, which is pretty often, I sometimes find that I am leftover with extra hamburger buns. My favorite thing to do with them, is to make homemade breadcrumbs. And it is really easy!

Buns into breadcrumbs

These breadcrumbs are perfect for all kinds of meals like Meatloaf, Meatballs, Chicken Nuggets, Macaroni N Cheese, and all sorts of holiday sides!

Toasted bun breadcrumbs

I just toast the hamburger buns in a toaster – you could even use the oven to toast them as well. Then just leave them out for a few hours, on a countertop, so that they can get stale a bit.

Homemade breadcrumbs

Then just break them up into a food processor, or mini chopper, like the one I have here, and pulse them until the are fine crumbs. Add them to a freezer bag, and throw them in the freezer.

Homemade breadcrumbs

When you need them in a recipe, just place the bag on the counter to defrost.
Super easy, super convenient. And so frugalicious! Happy Frugal Friday!
