I used to hate vintage. I thought it just looked dated. I have always been into granite countertops, and stainless steel. And even now whenever I see a Wolf range, or a big shiny stainless steel range, I still get excited. Since we moved into this house though that has changed.

The home itself has been updated. The bathrooms have granite, and I have a big walk-in closet, but when it comes to the kitchen, that is where the modern updates stopped.

It was right out of the 1950’s and I was so disappointed. I have always wanted an updated kitchen. But I am still on the road to home ownership. Not quite there yet. My landlord is such a good guy, because he said I could do whatever I want to the kitchen. So after getting permission to paint, away I went.

The more time I spend in the kitchen, the more I am starting to like a vintage look. Nowadays I find that I am falling in love with French Farmhouse. And I fell in love with Antique stoves. Stoves like Wedgewood and O’keefe and Merritt.

I am in love with the clean look of porcelain and chrome. My mother-in-law had one, and it worked great, but it was quite beat up so-to-speak. But the way it cooked was so great. Everything was always baked even.

I had to have one!

I was on the hunt for a year, looking for the right one. It had to have 6 burners and 2 ovens. I have always wanted 2 ovens, so that I can cook big holiday dinners, with a roast beef in one oven, and a turkey in another. With 6 burners, I could make mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, bacon corn, and stuffed cabbage all at the same time.

I finally got my girl. And she is a beauty! She looks almost new. She has a few quirks to work out, but we’re getting there. This stove weighs a ton! And is so big. It is a Wedgewood from between 1948-1952

Yes there is a pilot light. Yes it stays on all the time. Actually there are 5 pilot lights total. And it heats up my kitchen a bit. That will not be a problem in the cold months, but in the summer, it does not help. But that’s ok! I’ll take it.

I love the way it looks and I love the vanishing shelf on top to display items. Even the shelf feels warm to the touch, and I think that is to keep prepared dishes warm. But I like displaying my utensils and my decorative items.
I am still looking for the clock that goes on top. I am checking Ebay and Craigslist everyday.

The timer doesn’t work, but I think a little WD40 will do the trick.

The ovens even have a baking chart printed on the door. It looks adorable. When I look at it, I start to wonder how many families used this stove to cook holiday dinner? And it is so taken care of that this stove must have been loved for many years.

And now I am going to be making so many memories around this stove, with the wonderful meals that will be coming from it. In time, I am going to have the top of the stove chromed, and maybe chrome the backsplash. But for now, she is perfect!

I also put up some drapes, and art, to complete my Vintage French Farmhouse Kitchen.
